Choosing Wind Bells and Windchimes for Your Backyard

Go for wind chimes that are uncomplicated in design in order to avoid any incongruity in decor styles. It is important to place them anywhere they blend in effortlessly. Choose wind chimes that make a pleasant sound and do not get stuck solely on their look. twf035-at__23007.jpg Consider a simpler aluminum type of wind chime over a more ornamental set because these typically make a more pristine sound quality. You can place your chimes at different heights when creating your wind chime garden. Wind chimes, for instance, can be set up in a range of places including a sundeck, in a small line of trees, as well as among flowers. The blowing breeze will produce a sound that will emanate around your whole yard. If the look of the wind chimes is important to you, consider hanging them in your eyeline where they will mirror the sun at sunrise and sundown. Aluminum wind chime gardens blend in well with flowing water (such as waterfalls or birdbaths), stone decors and evergreens.

The Demand for Water Features in Japanese Gardens

You will seldom see a Japanese garden that does not include a water feature. They tend to be put right at the entrance of Japanese temples and homes because they are considered representative of spiritual and physical cleansing. Since water is the most essential element of any Japanese fountain, the design is usually simple.

Moreover, water fountains with built-in bamboo spouts are very prevalent. The water moves through the bamboo spout and accumulates in the stone basin below. People generally make them look weathered and worn, even when they are new. It is vital that the overall look of the fountain goes with the natural setting, so people typically place plants, rocks, and flowers around it. Obviously, this fountain is something more than just a basic decoration.

If you want to get a bit more creative, try a stone fountain embellished with live bamboo and other natural elements placed on a bed of gravel. The point is that over time it will start to look more and more like a natural part of the landscape, as moss slowly grows over the stones.

Bigger water features can be created if there is enough open land. Consider adding a lovely final touch like a pond filled with koi or a tiny stream.

There are other options if you do not want to put water in your Japanese fountain. Many people decide to represent water with sand, gravel, or rocks rather than putting in real water.

Natural rocks that are flat and laid out tightly together can be used to produce the illusion of flowing water.

A Magnificent Example of Roman Talent: The Santa Maria in Cosmedin Water Fountain

Archaeologists and restorers alike have stumbled upon a wealth of pagan and Christian relics on the site of Santa Maria in Cosmedin in Rome. Located in the portico of the nearby basilica one can see the famous marble sculpture known as the Bocca della Verità (Mouth of Truth). The location of the Santa Maria in Cosmedin fountain (1719) was not in a well-known neighborhood and was, therefore, not oftentimes visited. It was said that there was very little to see in this area, as it was abject and desolate making it an unfriendly place to visit. It was a this time that Pope Clement XI commissioned the Italian architect Carlo Bizzaccheri to put up a fountain to refurbish the square outside the church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin. August 11, 1717 marked the date when construction on the church’s infrastructure commenced. After blessing of the first stone, medals with the images of the Blessed Virgin, for whom the church is named, and of St. John the Baptist, the patron saint of water, were thrown into the foundation.
