The First Outdoor Fountains recorded in Human History.

Towns and villages depended on working water fountains to funnel water for cooking, bathing, and cleaning up from nearby sources like lakes, streams, or creeks. ft-223__03404.jpg To produce water flow through a fountain until the end of the 1800’s, and create a jet of water, demanded the force of gravity and a water source such as a spring or lake, situated higher than the fountain. Typically used as monuments and commemorative edifices, water fountains have inspired travelers from all over the world throughout the centuries. If you saw the earliest fountains, you wouldn't identify them as fountains. Crafted for drinking water and ceremonial purposes, the initial fountains were simple carved stone basins. Pure stone basins as fountains have been uncovered from 2,000 B.C.. The jet of water emerging from small jets was forced by gravity, the lone power source builders had in those days. Situated near aqueducts or springs, the functional public water fountains provided the local population with fresh drinking water. Fountains with embellished Gods, mythological beasts, and creatures began to appear in Rome in about 6 B.C., crafted from stone and bronze. Water for the public fountains of Rome was brought to the city via a complicated system of water aqueducts.

Finding the Perfect Windchimes for You

Basic wind chimes function better than more complex ones so as to not create imbalance in decor styles. It is important to place them anywhere they blend in effortlessly.

When it comes to wind chimes, the tone is more significant than the look. Simple aluminum types of wind chimes typically produce a much better sound quality than those which are more decorative. When creating your wind chime garden, chimes can be hung at different heights. For example, place your wind chimes on a deck, in a smaller tree line and among flowers. The blowing breeze will produce a sound that will emanate throughout your whole backyard. If the look of the wind chimes is important to you, contemplate suspending them in your eyeline where they will reflect the sun at sunrise and sundown. Aluminum wind chime gardens fit well with stone settings, water features (such as a waterfall or a birdbath) and surrounding evergreens.

A Magnificent Example of Roman Know-How: The Santa Maria in Cosmedin Fountain

Both Christian and pagan articles have been found in large quantities by archaeologists and restorers searching the area of the Santa Maria in Cosmedin in Rome. Found in the portico of the nearby basilica one can see the celebrated marble sculpture known as the Bocca della Verità (Mouth of Truth). The location of the Santa Maria in Cosmedin fountain (1719) was not in a well-known area and was, therefore, not frequently visited. For the most part, visitors stayed away from the area because it was a bleak and deserted part of the city. It was a this time that Pope Clement XI mandated the Italian architect Carlo Bizzaccheri to put up a fountain to refurbish the square outside the church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin. August 11, 1717 marked the date when construction on the church’s infrastructure started. The blessing of the first stone to be placed in the foundation was followed by medals being tossed in showing the images of the Blessed Virgin, for whom the church is named, and St. John the Baptist, the patron saint of water.
