The Popularity of Water Fountains in Japanese Landscapes

Japanese gardens typically include a water feature. p-475__84188.jpg They tend to be placed right at the entrance of Japanese temples and homes because they are regarded as being representative of spiritual and physical cleansing. Since water is supposed to be the focal point of a fountain, you will find that the designs are kept very straightforward.

Many people also choose a water fountain that has a bamboo spout. Below the bamboo spout is usually a stone basin which receives the water as it flows down from the spout. People generally make them seem weathered and worn, even when they are new. So that the fountain appears at one with nature, people normally enhance it with natural stones, pretty flowers, and plants. As you can perhaps guess, this fountain is symbolic rather than purely decorative.

If you are looking for another sort of look and feel, you can also get a fountain crafted of stone, place it in a bed of gravel, and decorate it with natural stones and live bamboo. After some years it begins to really blend into the surrounding nature as moss blankets the stone.

Anyone who has an extensive space to work with can, of course, install a much bigger water feature. Charming add-ons include a babbling brook or tiny pool with koi in it.

However, water does not need to be an element in a Japanese water fountain. Lots of people decide to represent water with sand, gravel, or rocks rather than putting in actual water. The semblance of a creek with trickling water can also be achieved by placing flat stones very closely together.

Why Add Wind Chimes to Your Garden?

In order to escape possible clashes in design styles, choose wind chimes which are basic in appearance. The aim is to place them anywhere they will fit and blend in effortlessly. When it comes to wind chimes, the sound is more important than the appearance. Often times, the more complex types of wind chimes are not made to create a pure sound quality, while those made of simple aluminum can create this flawless sound. When creating your wind chime garden, chimes can be hung at various heights.

For instance, setting your wind chimes on a sundeck, in a small line of trees, or amidst flowers can create a beautiful outdoor environment. Each and every occasion the wind blows, the tones will intensely resonate throughout your backyard. If you want to enjoy the aesthetic facet of wind chimes, make sure they are in line of vision by positioning them where they will reflect the sun at dawn and at sunset. Aluminum wind chime gardens blend in well with flowing water (such as waterfalls or birdbaths), stone decors and evergreens.

An Absolute Roman Wonder: The Santa Maria Water Fountain in Cosmedin

Archaeologists and restorers alike have stumbled upon a treasure trove of pagan and Christian artifacts on the site of Santa Maria in Cosmedin in Rome. The Bocca della Verità (Mouth of Truth} is a famed marble sculpture located in the portico of the nearby basilica. Due to the fact that the Santa Maria in Cosmedin fountain (1719) was situated off the beaten track, it remained relatively unknown. For the most part, visitors stayed away from the area because it was a drab and desolate part of the city. It was then that the Italian architect Carlo Bizzaccheri was mandated by Pope Clement XI to erect a water fountain in the square outside the church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin in an attempt to make the area more popular. August 11, 1717 marked the date when construction on the church’s infrastructure began. Medals bearing the imagery of the Blessed Virgin, for whom the church is named, and of St. John the Baptist, the patron saint of water, were thrown in the foundation following the blessing of the first rock.
