The Extraordinary Santa Maria in Cosmedin Water Fountain in Rome

Remarkable discoveries of both Christian and pagan roots have been made by archaeologists and restorers in the area around Santa Maria in Cosmedin in Rome. Situated in the portico of the nearby basilica one can find the famous marble sculpture known as the Bocca della Verità (Mouth of Truth). Since the Santa Maria in Cosmedin fountain (1719) was located off the beaten track, it remained mostly unknown. It was said that there was nothing worth seeing in this area because it was bleak and abandoned making it an unfriendly place to visit. It was then that the Italian architect Carlo Bizzaccheri was instructed by Pope Clement XI to build a water fountain in the square outside the church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin in an effort to make the area more popular. August 11, 1717 marked the date when construction on the church’s infrastructure began. The consecration of the first rock to be placed in the foundation was followed by medals being thrown in bearing the images of the Blessed Virgin, for whom the church is named, and St. John the Baptist, the patron saint of water.

Ways to Incorporate the Benefits of Feng Shui to Your Yard

When applied to your yard, feng shui design will draw its beneficial energy into your home as well.

When introducing feng shui design into your yard, even a very small area is adequate. Of course, a huge area is ideal if you have it, but rest assured that feng shui works just as well in smaller spaces as well.

Feng shui tools are identical whether you are working in your garden or your residence. Your yard's bagua, or energy map, is an extension of your home’s bagua, so it is important to determine your home’s first.

There are five elements in feng shui theory, and you should learn how to use each of them to intensify the energy.

The Earth element, for example, should be positioned in the northeast part of your garden which is linked to the personal growth and self-cultivation energy in feng shui design. A perfect addition to the northeast corner of your yard might be a serene Zen garden decorated with natural stone, as they represent the Earth element in feng shui.

A water feature is a perfect addition to the following feng shui areas: Southeast (money & abundance), East (health & family), and North (career & path in life).
