How Feng Shui Make Your Backyard into Place to Relax

Enjoy the health benefits of feng shui by incorporating its design elements into your yard.

Size is not the main factor when incorporating feng shui design to your yard. A huge space is great for those lucky enough to have it, but a smaller area can still be useful in feng shui design.

The principal feng shui tools can be used for your interior decor as well as your garden design. Since the energy map, or bagua, of your garden is an extension of your house’s bagua, you will need to begin by understanding the bagua of the house.

There are five elements in feng shui theory, and you should know how to utilize each of them to maximize the energy.

Feng shui design calls for the Earth element, for example, to be integrated into the northeastern corner of your garden, as that section connects to self-cultivation and personal growth energy. Since rocks epitomize the Earth element in feng shui, you might think about putting some into a serene Zen garden in the northeast corner of your yard.

Southeast (money and abundance), East (health & family), and North (career & path in life) are feng shui areas perfect for a water element.

A Fabulous Example of Roman Talent: The Santa Maria in Cosmedin Fountain

Archaeologists and restorers alike have stumbled upon a treasure trove of pagan and Christian artifacts on the grounds of Santa Maria in Cosmedin in Rome. Found in the portico of the nearby basilica one can see the famous marble sculpture known as the Bocca della Verità (Mouth of Truth). When the Santa Maria in Cosmedin fountain was constructed in 1719, it was off the beaten track and mostly unknown as a result. It was said that there was very little to see in this area, as it was bleak and desolate making it an unfriendly place to visit. In order to modernize the square outside the church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin, Pope Clement XI commissioned an Italian architect by the name of Carlo Bizzaccheri to create a fountain for the area. Work on the church's infrastructure commenced on on August 11, 1717. After blessing of the first stone, medallions bearing the images of the Blessed Virgin, for whom the church is named, and of St. John the Baptist, the patron saint of water, were thrown into the foundation.
